I will be speaking to a church soon. As I was preparing what to say and which subject to speak on, this thought hit me in a wave. You see, it has been a tough week this week at work. A few people with whom I have talked have really been struggling with depression - deep depression. Sometimes in the midst of all that goes on around us, it could seem as if there seems to be no hope for a better tomorrow. Then I thought of a hymn I used to sing in church with my grandmother who has long since passed.
How sweet to hold a new born baby And feel the pride and the joy that he gives But greater still that calm assurance Oh this child! This child, this child Can face uncertain days
Because He lives
And because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives all fear is gone Because I know He holds the future And life is worth the living just because He lives
And then one day we'll all cross that river We'll fight life's final war, life's final war with pain As death gives way to victory We'll see the lights of glory and we'll know He reigns Because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives all fear is gone Because I know, I know He holds the future And life is worth the living just because He lives Because He lives He lives
Life is worth the living just because He (Jesus) raised from the dead. 1 Corinthians mentions that we do not have to grieve as those who have no hope. There is hope that tomorrow will be brighter. There is hope that the burdens and weights and pains we are carrying now will be rolled off. Sometimes we just have to heed the advice I was given a long time ago. "Don't give up til tomorrow!"
