BY FAITH….
As we continue to explore the pieces of the armor of God, today we look at the shield of
faith in Ephesisans 6:16 which says, “Take up the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
My wife and I have two sons who are huge Marvel superhero fans and one of
their favorites is Captain America who may not have superpowers per say, but he has a
shield that helps him defeat the enemy. We too, like Captain America, have a shield to
defeat our enemy but this isn’t a shield of special metals, it is a shield of faith. Hebrews
11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we
do not see.” If you go on to read Hebrews 11, that chapter is about people in the Bible
who walked by faith. Each verse after begins with by faith… If another verse in that
chapter were written about you, what would it say? By faith _________________. The
shield God has given us is a shield of faith. When soldiers go to battle, they would soak
the leather on their shields to extinguish the flaming arrows shot at them. In the same
way, we need to stay saturated in our faith in God trusting Him, not ourselves, in
everything we do so we too can extinguish the flaming arrows of doubt and disbelief the
enemy shoots at us. How’s your faith? Don’t stop believing but by faith……
